Is That Worth Buying?

Xûr is in town offering new gear. What’s worth your hard-earned Strange Coins?

Remember to finish the Urn of Sacrifice quest before he leaves!

Inventory

Item Class Subclass Type Strange Coin
Plan C Any Any Fusion Rifle 17
The Glasshouse Titan Defender Helm 13
Don’t Touch Me Hunter Any Gauntlets 13
Sunbreakers Warlock Sunsinger Gauntlets 13

You can also test your luck with an Exotic gauntlet Engram! We have reviews for each of the Exotic gauntlets.

Plan C

Plan C is once again available for purchase.

With the patch coming in February, fusion rifles are going to experience a few changes:

  • Blast pattern on a Fusion Rifle burst cone is a little wider.
  • Initial starting ammo is reduced across all ammo stats. This is change primarily affects The Crucible.
  • Starting a Crucible match, you’ll have less Fusion Rifle ammo in reserve.

We have a full review for this weaponThis fusion rifle also made our Top 5 Fusion Rifles list and Tier 2 PvP list!

It makes a wonderful secondary for critical moments, especially if you love using fusion rifles.

Should I buy it?

The gun is balanced and has great stats overall when compared to other Fusion Rifles, and has the quickest reload speed.

This weapon’s defining perk allows for a very quick charge time, which will only activate when you switch to it, and has a cooldown. You can quickly whip it out and get off a devastating shot that can swing a firefight to your favor.

It works well even when using it as a primary since it holds five rounds in the magazine. There’s also a decent amount of options for upgrading its stability or range/accuracy so you can customize the weapon to your playstyle a little more. It’s definitely a balanced weapon overall.

Fusion Rifles are very powerful in the Crucible, and this is one no exception. It’s worth picking up, so if you enjoy using Fusion Rifles, buy this!

Alternatives

Stats Compared to Other Fusion Rifles

  • Above Average: Range, Stability, Reload Speed
  • Below Average: Charge Rate (except after switching to it)

Notable Talents

You’ll want to maximize your range, so go with Field Choke and Hammer Forged.

  • Hip Fire – This weapon has bonus accuracy while firing from the hip.
  • Plan C – Charge and equip times are very short immediately after weapon swa

The Glasshouse (Defender)the glasshouse exotic helm

The Glasshouse is designed for Defender Titans who are adamant about increasing the effectiveness of Blessing and Weapons of Light.

This helm has a hefty 118/127 Intellect, higher than the last time it was sold.

Talents

  • Rain Blows – Increases melee attack speed.
  • Quintessence Transfer – Replenish Super energy when you kill an enemy with a grenade.
  • Bathed in Light – Blessing of Light and Weapons of Light last longer.

Should I buy it?

Bathed in Light will extend the duration of either of those talents by 5 seconds, allowing it to stay active for a total of 15 seconds.

Blessing of Light grants you and any allies who pass through the shield a bonus shield that stacks on top of your existing health. This shield normally has 65 health (boosted to 95 with the Illumination talent). If the shield is damaged or destroyed, you can simply step back into your Ward to regenerate it. It’s helpful in situations where you need some extra muscle to break an enemy position.

Weapons of Light is a powerful damage bonus, granting you and any friendly Guardians who pass through it a 25% damage bonus (35% with the Illumination talent). Weapons of Light gives Ward of Dawn some offensive bite and can result in more sustained damage being dealt over the lifespan of Ward of Dawn.

Blessing/Weapons of Light are obviously best used when your teammates can take advantage of it too.

Similar to the Helm of Saint-14, this helm also has Rain Blows, an excellent perk for both PvP and PvE.

This helm will give you Intellect, which meshes well with Quintessence Transfer, increasing your Super recharge speed when you land grenade kills.

Both the Helm of Saint-14 and The Glasshouse are worthy Exotics, but The Glasshouse is better used in situations where your team will benefit from Bathed in Light, while if you’re going to be overwhelmed like in Crota’s End, the Helm of Saint-14 might be a better choice.

Don’t Touch Medon't touch me exotic gauntlets

The Don’t Touch Me gauntlets… yet again. If you’re planning on buying these, make sure to buy an Engram first, that way you might be able to save on Coins.

For anyone curious, Ikaheka’s Hooks are coming with the House of Wolves, and we gave our initial thoughts about them in this video.

These gauntlets only have 104/111 Discipline, but that’s a higher roll than the last time they were sold.

While these technically aren’t a Bladedancer-only item, Bladedancer’s will benefit more from Defensive Reflex using their Shadowjack talent.

Talents

  • Special Weapon Loader – Increases the reload speed of all Special Weapons.
  • Inverse Shadow – Increased Super energy gained from killing minions of the Darkness.
  • Defensive Reflex – Taking damage from a melee attack makes you briefly invisible.

Should I buy it?

These are definitely worth buying for PvE! The perks for these gauntlets are excellent, and you’re able to use them on both subclasses.

The Defensive Reflex perk allows you to quickly escape any enemy in PvE if they get too close for comfort. Using the Shadowjack talent will increase your invisibility after getting struck to 6 seconds (3 more seconds than normal)!

Don’t Touch Me will also increase your Super energy from kills in PvE, a great addition of course, but unfortunately not one you can use outside of PvE.

The perks on these gauntlets are very well rounded, and will be extremely helpful in situations where you’re getting swarmed, especially in Crota’s End.

While Defensive Reflex could be useful in PvP too, it’s unlikely that people will lose sight of you that easily for it to be effective. If you need some better PvE armor, pick these up.

Sunbreakers (Sunsinger)sunbreakers exotic review

A frequent product from Xûr! These gauntlets come with 98/105 Intellect, more than the last time they were sold.

Talents

  • Special Weapon Loader – Increases the reload speed of all Special Weapons.
  • Serpent’s Tail – Causing damage with a melee reduces your grenade cooldown.
  • Helium Cycle – Increases the duration of your Solar Grenade.

Should I buy it?

The infamous Sunbreakers… love or hate them, if you’re a Sunsinger you should probably have these.

The perks these provide are fantastic if you set your talents right. Helium Cycle doubles your Solar grenade’s duration. Unfortunately it doesn’t affect Dragon’s Breath solar flare.

An additional Solar grenade with Gift of the Sun is crucial if you want to take advantage of Sunbreakers‘ perks. Song of Flame and Radiant Will are also great as they will have Radiance last longer and have your grenades recharge faster.

In PvP and PvE alike, Sunbreakers give the same benefit. More control over areas and more damage output for your grenades. The Solar grenade can be useful in encounters when enemies come through predictable chokepoints, and for bosses that have multiple points that can be damaged simultaneously such as the Devil Walker.

Since there’s Exotic gauntlet Engrams for sale, buy at least one of those first before buying the Sunbreakers.

Aesthetically, they’re amazing. The bright orange fiery plates will never go unnoticed.

Pretty underwhelming week again. I’m really starting to think Xûr is making us pay really hard the week where we got Icebreaker.. XD

    • Petr Švancara

You know, they said he is “Random” so Bungie publicly declares (via Deej) that they don’t have Xur items under control. . but who else should have Xur under control if not the Bungie. Jesus, they made the game alright? At least you see why I hate Destiny more and more. .
      – Halogen cz

      • Hanayo Asa

My two cents is that they have an algorythm which decides the inventory for Xûr. They just see the results before us.

        • Petr Švancara

I agree with you, that is clever idea. .
          – Halogen cz

          • Ashuramgs2sub

Deej has previously stated that during the two weeks before the first DLC dropped when Xur had Plan C back to back that there was no point to putting something new up that week, as it was going to be made partially redundant by what came the next week (aka the boosted stats on weapons since the DLC dropped). That would indicate that they have direct control over what Xur sells.

  • Anas Rayane

seriously enough xur is selling shit again no heavy ammo, a gun who every already got enough bungie

  • Petr Švancara

What about Gjallarhorn, Thunderlord, Hardlight, Mida Multi-Tool or Red Death, I still want this weapons. . and what about Playstation Exclusive weapons? Monte Carlo, Hawkmoon I still do not see them since the new Year. Don’t worry Bungie! I have other much better games to play. Destiny is just bullshit. .
    – Halogen cz

    • Christian

An entire game is “Bullshit” because an NPC doesn’t hand you the best weapons in the game at your own accord? Oh wow. That is incredible 😉

      • Petr Švancara

You think you are clever or wise right? I have more than 500 hours played in this bullshit game, I have right to say what I want, and all I can know is that me and my friends are starting to play other games more than this, because of this bullshits. Only a stupid player can stand up for this dissaponting game. . I played Halo since the Bungie release it, so I know exactly how good and unique game (from Bungie) looks like, feels like. . and believe me or not, this is not a good or unique game, this is just overpriced shit, nothing else. Or you think that those 5 basic strikes is alright? Ha, ha, ha, I have Halo 4 where is atleast 50 similar strikes (all for free) and even with more story cutscenes than in entire Destiny. What else you and everyone else can say about this, nothing. . because when you compare this two products, you sooner or later realize that Destiny have less everything. . so yea, stand up for this bullshit, that is all you can do.
        – Halogen cz

        • Hanayo Asa

Then, why have you played this game for 500+ hours ? I don’t understand the logic, unless you’re a masochist. :/

          • Petr Švancara

It is simple. . you must put some time to things until you realize what it is. . I guess, that me and my girlfriend are realize it too late. That is all I can say about it. . you know, we loved Bungie because of Halo, but this game is just a huge letdown. We expected much more, especially more content in the full version of the game. And you know what else I hate about Destiny? I hate that fact, that DLC is actually not an expansion, it is just a locked content inside the game. . Dark Below DLC is about few Kylobytes on Harddisk, so wen you buy the DLC like this, you just download the key for unlocking this. I understand that it’s the common rule of the today games, but it’s still calculating fact.
            – Halogen cz

          • Finlay Jones

            “I played for 500 hours”
            “i wanted more content”

jesus, what other games do you play for 500 hours?!

          • Petr Švancara

Halo 4, Halo 3, Aliens vs Predator, Saints Row Third, Aliens Colonial Marines, Fable 3, Turok, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3, Unreal Tournament, Far Cry Instincts Predator and few other games. . do you have problem with that? I play also with my girlfriend, so we are two on that. And I never say that only for the reason that I played this game for more than 500 hours I want more content in game. You don’t understand it. . that missing content should be in the game since the launch. Destiny is just empty, even with the DLC’s like Dark Below. But I think that you still can’t understand this fact. Yea, and I forget to say that I have also job, girlfriend, cat, dog and other duties.
            – Halogen cz

          • Finlay Jones

I understand it perfectly. and yes there are criticisms to be leveled at bungie. Plenty of them. the storyline for starters looks much more interesting from pre release info we got.

BUT Singling out Destiny to moan about locked DLC, which is in every game, when you’ve played for 500 hours seems churlish. Even with cost of season pass the price per hour gametime is very very good.

There is obviously FUN content there, to play for 500 hours. People wouldn’t embrace the grind if the core gameplay wasn’t actually fun.

also, you played colonial marines and fable 3 for 500 hours? lol.

          • Petr Švancara

listen, I understand what you say. But not every DLC is locked inside the game. . think about it, there are also many DLC’s that you must download, and they are about few Gigabytes of data. In this case, it’s not about the locked content, it’s about a real expansion that was made after the game release. And once again, my girlfriend is helping me with some games, so that 500 hours is not only my personal work, she is also playing. And yea, I love Aliens, I love Predators, so I play Colonial Marines and AVP too. . I am a huge fan of this movies.

          • The_Klayborg

I want to preface this by saying that I am currently In my last six months of the Game Art program at Fullsail University.

In the case of DLC currently on a disc I think that in this particular case it is fine. The reason I feel this way is because of a couple of reasons. First and foremost these where not just multiplayer maps with spawns not set yet and other game specific attributes created. Im ok that they had some even most of the areas built however this doesnt mean it was done. These area’s could’ve been finished because they had an idea for them and where going back to the start of the industry pipeline to really hammer out what the wanted to do with house of wolves and Dark Below. There is also the possibility that they where area’s created for content that they didnt like and cut; after which they went back to repurpose the areas for Dark Below and House of Wolves. Although the later is less likely.

Secondly the reason that potentially explains the small download is the modular nature of many of the game assets. The guns and ships are all ceated from a catalog of pieces already in the game. So potentially the update before the dlc added the UV textures: Displacement, Normal, Spec, Gloss, and Illuminate maps.

It seems to me the download was all just encounter and new raid assets. What I mean by encounter is enemy placement, spawn points and the raid mechanics; stuff like that.

At least thats my thoughts on it.
            -The_Klayborg

          • Petr Švancara

I understand what are you saying. But, if you look at the games 10 years before now, you just can’t find any kind of Kilobytes DLC’s like today, at that times many of DLC’s was even more about another Discs that you need to purchase than this Kylobytes method. DLC’s should be just expansions, and not some previously prepared content. If it’s about a specific way how to create them, then alright, but if it’s about false hype that show us something that is not even in the full game, then it’s really bad, because they are showing us the BETA trailer where is already something from the DLC, that is very stupid and arogant way how to present a future game don’t you think? Look at this trailer, at the time 0:12 you can clearly see the DLC area on the Venus where some players already walking. I mean, they are breaking their promises. How can you show the trailer for the game that was not even released, when you in the same way show some content that is already a “planned” DLC? you already say that, they cut some content, yes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1gkfzKVUgs
            – Halogen cz

          • THE_KLAYBORG

They are showing an area in the game, which as I said could be built and then later decided they didn’t like the direction or concept they had for that part so they could repurpose the area. With a dev kit or when building in engine, at least with the unreal engine dropping in to a level is as easy as right click, “play from here”. I could easily see them liking the area and wanting to utilize it but finding that it didnt fit with the vision they had for the point.
I am only trying to add some perspective here, many people have a small understanding of what it takes to make a game.
Also i would also like to point out that Halo 2’s original version was scrapped, the entire thing, before release. The Halo 2 that was released was made in a year. Cutting content isnt that rare or bad necessarily.

          • dstripedape

Thanks for this post, very informative for those of us without good understanding of game data storage techniques. People spouting noise about how content is locked but don’t understand that you only have so much space for objects in game

          • TheFossilMan

Think of the value you got from a meager 80 dollars. You played for 500 hours. If you go to a ski resort you pay 80 dollars for a 1 day pass to ride the ski lifts. That’s a max of about 14 hours of content for the day. You need to keep things in perspective.

          • Petr Švancara

Yea, I agree with that fact, but when you buying the game you just always expect that you should have play it for a longtime, at least I think that. So this is a game after all, we must talk about game stuff, and not about some overpriced ticket to the cinema. And in the terms of other games, especially the RPG style games, Destiny have less of everything. I’m sorry, but it’s a true.

Even these DLC’s still not add something valuable for basic game. +1 new strike, +3 new missions (without any cutscenes!) +1 new Raid (you still need a couple of friends to play it!) +3 new multiplayer maps, that’s all. . and believe me or not, I miss especially these cutscenes that should be here with this DLC. That is poor content for one expansion to a RPG game like Destiny. I play many other games, also with DLC’s, and compare to this, it’s just miserable poor. Most worthwhile thing from Dark Below DLC is the new Raid, that’s all.
            – Halogen cz

          • TheFossilMan

Agreed on most of your points. I was quite disappointed that they called it an expansion. I justified in my head because they were fixing all of the cheeses that people were exploiting. This was after all Bungie’s first foray into MMO type games. I also try not to compare this with RPG games like Skyrim, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy etc. because then I would just be disappointed. If you want a true disappointment in an RPG like game almost exactly like Destiny go try Defiance. It’s awful compared to this game. None of the guns feel all that different and there are few game changers from the beginning to the end. It has a decent enough story but it’s no where near as good. This is the type of game (just like World of Warcraft in vanilla) that will only get better with time. Someone that starts to play this game when the big content drop comes will think that it is chock full of things to do. Us early adopters have to struggle with them for a while.

          • I played for 510 hours so far, and I have the same feeling. In my life, this is the game I most played. I think they’re focusing on new players and forgetting old players like me and you.

          • Petr Švancara

Yes, but it was their opinion what partner they choose. And they choose one of the worst in the entire game industry (Sorry, I don’t like Call of Duty) Activision is not the right option. I don’t like that idea, that everything what Actvision say Bungie will do. I guess Bioware should be much better option, they have also more experience with the RPG style games. . but that is only one of many.

You are sort of rambling on about random things that don’t entirely correlate. I’m not really interested in what you have to say, I just thought your first remark was pretty funny. Perhaps there was a misconception. I might still be missing something because you are on a news site for a game that you supposedly dislike. No need to get upset over this sort of stuff, just go and play Halo 4. It’ll be a better use of your time.

      • Transforce98

To be honest, I have terrible luck in this game sometimes, especially the raid. All I want is either Suros or Read Death for an Exotic, and one or two Raid primaries. I can handle with what I got, but it get’s a little tiring when you do VoG and you get the EXACT same rewards as you did it last time.

        • Petr Švancara

I agree with you. . that is the whole reason why I starting to hate this game. Too much is just too much. One word : Chatterwhite!
          – Halogen cz

        • Christian

I genuinely want a couple of Exotics I still don’t own. Is making RNG the only way to get something really fair? Of course not. But it doesn’t mean we are obligated any rewards because of it. People need to learn to be patient. Xur will sell it eventually, but you have to expect he will fill the gaps with more things people wont be as interested in, otherwise he is just a weekly delivery point. He is supposed to occasionally offer shortcuts.

Additionally, Bungie will add alternatives to getting the Exotics you want. It is one of the most complained things, so it will get sorted. The last thing Devs want is a game system that frustrates players. So don’t sweat it too much.

You sir are an idiot. Red death, mida multi, and ghorn have all been sold before. If you cared so much you would have bought them the first time he sold them. The rest I got from gorgon chest in VoG. Weapons are easy to come by, armor on the other hand is a different story….HoPF????

      – Halogen cz

      • KWG88ss

Ok well this isn’t baseball cards. its a balance issue. If everyone has Gjallahorn it will get nerfed. just like how your vex has been nerfed over and over with more and more people getting it.

Ps if you would use vex over Gjallahorn for exotic slot you’re insane.

        • ed

          Rarly use gallahorn
I have have, except morons on lfg thing its necessary to beat crota with, my week 3 IB is equipped 90% of the time and the other 10% its the mytho. Ghorn is overrated. Wow xur randomy picked sunbreakers again…. Funny how praxic is the only exotic armor he has never sold….

        • Petr Švancara

It’s my opinion what kind of weapon I will use. And I can use whatever I want. I just use weapons that I like, even if it’s only about design. I don’t care about any “nerf” at all. Can I do something against that? No, (oh, I forgot, maybe when I don’t buy that weapon, maybe it should not be “nerfed” that is your stupid, logic) so I don’t care about this “nerf”. I use what I like. . And I prefer Vex.
          – Halogen cz

          • KWG88ss

            So to sum it up:

You don’t care if things get nerfed and don’t care about game balance. You simply want what you want when you want it. Got it.

My logic is simply to not make EVERYTHING accessible to everyone. Should EVERYONE have Necrochasm? Should you be able to get the shader from some achievement that you or someone else didn’t compete? This is the mentality of why the game will fail and, not because Xur didn’t sell what you want this week.

            Gimme a break.

          • Robert

What if everyone had nechrochasm? It’s not that great of a gun…

        • TheFossilMan

I also don’t use the Gjall that often. I know it has it’s purposes but it’s not my preferred play style. I like to use different guns to keep things fresh.

        • cool_herc

You’re wrong all the way around. There’s far more balance the more people that have the weapon.

Beyond that, the Vex is a primary. Gjallhorn is a heavy. Who are you to say anyone is insane for preferring to equip an exotic primary over an exotic heavy that, for myriad reasons, can only be used limitedly?

          • KWG88SS

No, I’m not. Watch the video of people downing Atheon in like, 30 seconds for having a team of Gjallahorns. So by EVERYONE having the highest damage output weapon in the game will make things more balanced? Uh, no. And they are insane for exactly the above reasons: It does INSANE amounts of damage in a boss fight. Most people in raids save the exotic slot for Gjallahorn.

Crucible, entirely different but since I use a Legendary primary I only switch back and forth from Gjalla and IB. If your argument is it will make crucible more balanced than there are plenty of other tracking rocket launchers.

      • Oz

The only time things get nerfed is because of the crucible. The Ghorn is not used much in the crucible. So it will most likely not see a nerf.

          Hmm, sounds logical. .

Bjorn on Skyshook is hysterical. You can literally track snipers from across the map.

          • True Radiant Free

I’m thinking Truth would be way better at tracking, since that is its exotic perk and the wolfpack rounds are just overkill lol.

  • JORGEEEEEEE

    Bungi pls the GJALLAJORN!!

    • Neil

If xur were to sell Gjallarhorn, it would have to be hit pretty hard with the nerf bat. Personally, I think some things in this game are better left to chance. While xur is very, very nice, he has the potential to ruin end game content by selling Gjallarhorn.

      • Robert

Why would it have to be nerfed though? They only really nerf guns that affect crucible, and Gjally isn’t a game changer when it comes to crucible.

  • Ahku

“If you’re planning on buying these, make sure to buy an exotic Engram first!”

    Can someone please explain this?

    • I think he is suggesting you to try your lucky getting the same item from an exotic engram, which costs 25 motes of light, before spending yours 13 strange coins.

      • Ahku

I thought that first too but was confused when he added

“Ikaheka’s Hooks are coming with the House of Wolves.”

        • I didn’t understand this part too :p

          • Y0urDepression

he means (and which I agree) you should just get a bunch of exotic arm engrams and wait for dlc release and use them then to which you would most likely get a better roll for stats and a chance at the new arms coming out

        • I was just mentioning that they were coming as a completely separate thought.

  • Mezi-Crochet

We just want to spend our Coins… So bring back the heavy ammos!

To everyone complaining about Xur not selling the Gjallarhorn…

Take a moment and think. If Xur were to sell Gjallarhorn, everyone would have one. While it would be nice if everyone had arguably the best gun in Destiny, it would be extremely broken. Solar burn Nightfalls? Already made laughably easy by icebreaker. Atheon? It would only take 1 relic cycle to destroy him. Crota? That whole last fight, with proper teamwork and a team full of Gjallarhorns, would just decimate him. This could only lead to one logical solution: nerf the Gjallarhorn. It it was nerfed because Xur sold it, it would cause outrage among much of the community.

If Xur decides to sell the Gjallarhorn, It could potentially be the fuel that leads to a much worse inferno.

Hooray someone with a brain!!!! I guess people don’t understand that balance is more important than someone’s collection. Who the hell collects exotics anyway? I dismantle any I don’t use for shards.

Also I thought I read somewhere Gjallahorn was removed from rotation.

      • Neil

Im not certain about it being removed from rotation, but theres a chance it has been removed from xur’s rotation.

      • He got a point. But as a collector myself – I want the Jelly just for the collection. But I still hope that it’ll drop from nightfall someday..

    • 1.1 million Icebreakers were sold the weekend Xur had it on sale. Assuming that each sale was to an individual account and no one bought two or three for their alt characters, that’s roughly 7% of the destiny population who bought an Icebreaker. Given that Icebreaker is revered in nearly the same way as Gjallarhorn, having Xur sell it would decidedly not break the game.

  • sbrozzi

I think Xur should sell a shader that looks like a t-shirt with; ” I shopped from Xur and all I got was this lousy t-shirt” printed on the front of it…

      That’s a horrible review.

      • Petr Švancara

Angry Joe have it’s own style for every review. In the other side, he says all the true about Destiny. Deal with it. .

        • True Radiant Free

Nope, not all true at all, just your opinion, you deal with it.

          • Petr Švancara

So what is wrong? What else he say and it’s not a true? You don’t write even one reason why he is saying lies. Deal with your mother mr. wiseguy, but you still can’t save this broken game.
