Is That Worth Buying?

Xûr is in town offering new gear. What’s worth your hard-earned Strange Coins?

Inventory

Item Class Subclass Type Strange Coin
Suros Regime Any Any Auto Rifle 23
The Armamentarium Titan Either Chest 13
Crest of Alpha Lupi(h) Hunter Either Chest 13
Voidfang Vestments Warlock Voidwalker Chest 13

Weapon

SUROS Regime

This weapons stats are amazingly balanced. The high impact means it only takes 5 headshots in PvP, and it’s very easy to take someone out before they even realize what’s happening.

On top of the very high accuracy and range, the second perk will cause the bottom half of your magazine to do increased damage, which quickly adds up. It is possible to two shot someone in PvP with the last two rounds as long as they are headshots.

Should I buy it?

SUROS Regime is easily at the top of its class for auto rifles. This primary weapon has some of the best stats in the game. Its slowed rate of fire and low recoil means it is also one of the easiest to use. If you are looking for a jack of all trades weapon, this is the one for you. Buy it!

Stats Compared to Other Auto Rifles

  • Above Average: Impact, Stability
  • Below Average: N/A

Notable Talents

  • Focused Fire – When zoomed, this weapon fires slower, but causes additional damage.
  • Hammer Forged – Improved range and accuracy.
  • SUROS Regime – The bottom half of each magazine deals bonus damage and has a chance to return health when dealing damage.

Armor

The Armamentarium – Titan Chest

The Armamentarium has perks mostly centered around carrying more, which is extremely versatile. This armor is built for those Titans who love to deal heavy damage. An additional grenade, with more heavy and special ammo means you’re a walking armory, ready to throw some serious punches. This is the ultimate Titan’s chest piece!

Crest of Alpha Lupi, the other Exotic Titan chest, is similar in that it doesn’t provide any subclass specific upgrades.

Talents

  • Special Weapon Ammo – Increases the amount of Special ammo you can carry.
  • Heavy Weapon Ammo – Increases the amount of Heavy ammo you can carry.
  • Grenade Booster – Carry an additional grenade.

Should I buy it?

A second grenade is so very useful in any and all situations. Even if you prefer your primary weapon, and might just capitalize on 1/3 of its perks, it’s still going to be a worthwhile investment. If you find yourself using your heavy and special weapon a lot, then absolutely buy this… right now. Do it.

Crest of Alpha Lupi – Hunter Chest

The Crest of Alpha Lupi is 1 of two Exotic Hunter chest pieces. The perks for this chest aren’t great, but for people who use their special weapon a lot and/or hand cannons, it’s going to be very useful indeed. The increased revival speed is significant and great for PvE or 3v3.

Talents

  • Special Weapon Ammo – Increases the amount of Special Weapon ammunition you can carry.
  • Hand Cannon Ammo – Increases the amount of Hand Cannon ammunition you can carry.
  • Keeper of the Pack – You revive fallen teammates faster, and they revive you faster. Your Super also spawns additional orbs for teammates.

Should I buy it?

If you are a team player in PvP, this is the chest piece for you. Helping you revive people faster could swing 3v3 matches in your favor, and more special weapon and hand cannon ammo will obviously come in handy if you use those regularly. Unless you’d rather wait for the Lucky Raspberry, or don’t think the perks would benefit your playstyle, buy it. If you do not play 3v3 PvP, or mostly stick to PvE, just save your coins for Lucky Raspberry or an Exotic helm.

Voidfang Vestments – Warlock (Voidwalker) Chest

The Warlocks only have 2 Exotic chest options too. Soon there will be at least 1 more, that being the Starfire Protocol (see: expansion content). Voidfang Vestments is the only Voidwalker-specific chest, making it very valuable indeed. It’s a great choice for PvP.

Talents

  • Hand Cannon Ammo – Increases the amount of Hand Cannon ammunition you can carry.
  • Special Weapon Ammo – Increases the amount of Special Weapon ammunition you can carry.
  • Improved Axion Bolt – Your Axion Bolt grenade spawns an additional seeker. Respawn with full grenade energy.

Should I buy it?

Voidwalkers rejoice! This makes your Axion Bolt grenades really fast which means more consistent kills! Add in the fact that you now spawn with grenade energy, and you turn into a grenade throwing machine only rivaled by your Sun-filled brethren. This chest would work for the Sunsinger as well.

This is a good option if you’re a Voidwalker, considering that Skull of Dire Ahamkara is basically the only other Voidwalker-specific armor piece right now.

Oh boy, even more Regimes in Crucible…

    • Paratrooper2000

It’s called Suros Crucible, as from now.

    • Micah Yang

      The suros YAY!! (not)

    • BOoya956

LOL! its prob going to get nerf too.

  • BuckshotGeorge

I love how quickly this article goes up. Means I have something to look forward to on Destiny at the end of my working day.
Am I right in thinking that the weapons have only cost 17 SC in the past? Or has it always been 23? Either way I’m definitely getting Suros as I’ve been wanting it for a while (I’m an auto rifle sprayer!)
Not sure if I have enough to get the Hunter chest for my secondary but will see what I have.

    • Primary weapons cost 23

      • BuckshotGeorge

        Thanks Ryan.

    Ryan I have a comment.

Did you mean to put: “This might even be rewarded from this week’s Exotic Chest Engram, so be sure to buy that engram if you have enough Motes of Light!” In with the Armamantarium description, because Xur is selling Gauntlet Engrams this week.

    Thought i’d point that out.

    Cheers.

  • delta 6655

i wish xurs inventory would cycle through every item he can sell before he starts repeating. hes already sold the suros, id like to see what else he can sell.

  • Theemo Deman

I am lvl 24 (all blues) and been there way too long… Can anyone tell me what’s best to do? Buy the regime or get a higher *light* level with the armor? i’ve got 23coins.

    • CrAzY_RiCaNz

      Higher light Get the chest

    • boostedskyline

Higher light level = one step closer to nightfall/vault = better chance of getting new legendary/exotic stuff

    • BOoya956

get regime because light armor is easy to get just complete bounty for Vanguard. Takes time but super easy. I have hunter, warlock, and titan, I got them all on level 26 easy simply by doing vanguard bounties. Go for regime because its harder to get. You dont want to miss on this opportunity.

  • OxyCottonKilla

So I’m a level 25 Warlock and the only exotic I have is Heart of the Praxic Fire. Is it worth it for me to get this Warlock chest piece as well?

    • boostedskyline

Depends. You use voidwalker super more than sunsinger? Because this armors main perk is adding one more seeker projectile top you’re axiom bolt grenade. I have this chest piece and that one extra bomb for the axiom bolt grenade does help out, I mainly use voidwalker in pvp, sunsinger in pve since I usually solo stuff.

      • OxyCottonKilla

Okay thanks a lot man I have voidwalker maxed out since I levelled with it but I’ve been working on sun singer as well maybe I’ll grab the chest might as well then I have both of the exotic warlock chests which is probably pretty rare

    • insanetrasher

Try your luck with the engram first though. This chest is useless if you’re not using the perks for it.

  • insanetrasher

I really like using Scouts for primary, how does the Suros compare to a scout in PvE? I mean in terms of damage (bottom half of its mag mostly). If it gets just on par with a scout I’ll pass and stick to Ice Breaker.

    • echelon

When shooting from the hip it’s a meat grinder at close range. When you aim down the sights it’s basically a scout rifle lite. Geing an AR means it doesn’t have the downrange punch of the scout but the bigger magazine means you can keep shooting longer. There are no scope options on it so if you like the zoomed in scopes on the scout you might be disappointed in the Suros’ sight.

I have mine completely leveled and it’s a beast. It really is a jack of all trades for sure.

But if you really love scouts I don’t think this gun will sway you away from them…but I guess you never know unless you try it. It’s far and away the exotic I use most, I’ll say that. And I have Ice Breaker too along with many others that do nothing but collect dust…

      • insanetrasher

Well, my Scout got 27 bullets so its quite nice on that ground. But I don’t use scopes on it so I won’t have any issue getting along with the Suros. I might give it a try then, depends how many coins left in my vault..

  • Hungrymcpie

i have the the Armamentarium but it only increase my Heavy Machine Gun ammo by 13 rounds kinda pointless if thats all or is it cause i am using field scout on the gun that negates armor perks?

  • BOoya956

lol! Not to complain but now that everyone has it they are most likely to nerf. Just stating my opinion.

  • BOoya956

Ryan thank you for making this site were Destiny players can benefit from your wiki like knowledge. Just and idea but you might like make bestiary of enemies and bosses. I always like that in an RPG.

  • John Blue

“The other Exotic Titan chest, Crest of Alpha Lupi, is similar in that it doesn’t provide any subclass specific upgrades.”

Just this minor mistake here, as Crest of the Alpha Lupi is a Hunter, not Titan, chestpiece.

    • Seraph

No correction needed. There exists a chest of the same name for Titan. Confusing but correct. http://destiny.wiki.fextralife.com/Exotic+Titan+Armor

    • Sorry that tooltip automatically was used for the Hunter version, but yeah there’s also a Titan chest with the same name

      • John Blue

Okay, sorry, didn’t know about the second chest with the same name

  • Matt Dunnigan

    YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! The
    SUROS Regime!!!!!

  • Christian Jimenez

I bought the armamentarium last week and I just bought it again this week. Why? Because the one this week has much much better discipline stats. Last week I think the base discipline was only at 108, but this week it’s above 130. It allows me to put attribute points into intellect and strength without having to worry about losing my 100% discipline. Definitely worth the extra coins and now I can give my crappier armamentarium to my other titan. One at lvl 29, the other at 27.

  • Vuhii of Ice

Damnit. I spent all my strange coins last week on Truth. Now I don’t have any for Voidfang Vestments…

  • Robert

Thinking about getting the suros. any idea how it compares to Dr nope or atheons epilogue? I usually use my exotic in my special slot, but I can always switch around mid fight.

    • Christian Jimenez

It’s much better than both of them, but you’ll find yourself scrounging for ammo alot more often. It’s not the best raiding gun that’s for sure. But pvp and strikes are where it owns

      • serenity808

        +1 ammo shortages a plenty

  • Captiosus

As a Voidwalker, all I’m going to ask is this: Do you even Min-Max? Strength is the WORST stat for VW.

In PVE, VW wants to stack Int and Disc for more frequent Nova Bombs and Grenades, both of which can proc the Energy Drain effect. The melee special promotes getting out of melee either with increased speed or increased survival (I’m not even going to talk about the last talent which is pointless). Putting on Voidfang Vestiments means you lose both Int and Disc somewhere as you gearswitch to accommodate the one exotic piece; in turn you get less grenade procs until you reach the proper parity between STR and DISC to have 6 Axion seekers AND you sacrifice the frequency of Nova Bombs. The only real benefit is full grenade energy on respawn but unless you’re dying a lot – not exactly helpful in Nightfall and VOG – this benefit is useless.

In PVP, Axion Bolt is, by far, the worst grenade. The seekers are easy to see and even easier to dodge. Stats and powers normalized so, again, Strength becomes mostly meaningless. This means the best benefits for these robes here are the hand cannon perk and the grenade power on respawn perk, but again this only matters if you die a lot and if you prefer hand cannons.

TL;DR: Voidfang Vestiments are a waste of 13 coins. They do not synergize with VW’s skill trees well at all, as they all promote being in range while STR promotes being in melee. Axion Bolt is a great grenade in PVE, but easy as hell to negate in PVP. For PVE you’re better off stacking Int/Disc and for PVP the grenade benefit isn’t worth it unless you’re terrible at living.

  • Paratrooper2000

The problem isn’t that Suros is a great gun. The problem is that Suros is used in PvP. And if it gets nerved it will affect PvE aswell. But the PvE enemies will most likely not get nerfed…
