Weekly Update 2.12.15 (Reputation)

Published on: Feb 12, 2015 @ 15:40

Check out the full weekly update here.

We’ve been talking about 1.1.1 for a few weeks now. We promised a Heavy Ammo bug fix. We promised some weapon tuning.

The promise of “before the end of February” is still one we’re aiming to keep.

Reputation Gains

“Dude, when I score a few more points with New Monarchy, I’m gonna score that badass Vanquisher I’ve had my eye on.” –Abraham Lincoln, 1862

Okay, we all know Lincoln never said that. With all that black gear, he was obviously a Dead Orbit man. What we do know to be true is that plenty of you have asked for an easier way to check your reputation standing with your friendly neighborhood Tower vendors.

I had a chance to catch up with David Candland about that this week. If you’re unaware of his reputation, Candland, otherwise known as “Evil Otto,” is the User Interface Design Lead at Bungie.

Here’s what he had to say about the shiny new stuff he’s been working on:

Tell us about this new Reputation Panel. Looks like you saved us a few steps.

DC: We’ve created a way for you to see your faction reputations and weekly marks without having to run from vendor to vendor in the Tower. Now this information is never more than two clicks away!

When did you make the call to drop this into our inventory screens?

DC: We’re working on a lot of new features. This one is being included in 1.1.1 because it had a very low impact on our Test team. We’ve known we’ve wanted this feature since we donned our first piece of faction class gear, and the community has too. It was a no-brainer.

We’ve seen the community come up with their own ideas for how this might have worked. What did you wrestle with in making it a reality in an existing game?

DC: Where do you put it, and how much information do you include? Since reputation really affects your buying power, it made sense to put it in close proximity to your currencies. The inventory screen real estate is pretty full, so using the fly-out convention we established in the settings screen was a way to recoup some space, yet still allow tooltips for another layer of detail.

Reputation is power! You haven’t heard the last from Evil Otto. Like he said, they’re working on some other ways to change the way you visualize your world in Destiny. Stay tuned.

Love In The Air

Reminder: Valentine’s Day is this Saturday. If you’re still at a loss for what you’ll do to let the love of your life know that you care, we suggest a fun-filled evening in Doubles Skirmish. It’s live in the Crucible right now.

Just picture you and that special someone skipping through a live firefight together, laying all challengers to waste. Nothing says “I’ll love you forever,” more than bringing them back to life when they fall to enemy gunfire. You might even spend some quality time together sharing a freshly-popped crate of ammunition.

The couple that slays together stays together.

And, if you’re single, why not let Lord Shaxx be your matchmaker? Meet other singles in your area. Show them the true meaning of love.

Thanks for playing. Thanks for sharing. And thanks for waiting patiently for the next game update. We’re excited to tell you about what it holds in store for Strikes next week.

Nice to finally see a rep UI accessible.

But what about having shared reputations? If it was shared I might be motivated to rank up my crucible and factions since I could level up by using my 3 characters.

      check destinystatus.com.

        • Stanley Lee

Since Bungie only make this little improvement in-game.

I guess you need to wait till Destiny 3.

  • Tenabrus

now if only the grimoire were this readily accessible.

  • Barrett McLain

No vault space update still? Well I guess progress is progress, just would like to have more space.

    • WSquared88

They seem to be gearing up to a really big update and teasing as they go along. It is still possible that vault space will be in here, but that they are waiting for a big surprise. Next week it will be something strike related maybe the week after it will be vault space? You never know.

  • Adamms

YES! I’ve been wanting to check my REP when not in the tower for a while now. Thank you Bungie <3

It’s possible that they could up the rewards again, but unlikely.

They could also be adding matchmaking to the higher level strikes, also unlikely.

Maybe they are adding rewards for certain segments like in the raids; this is possible because it would give people more of a reason to play strikes like they should be played, but the problem is that most strikes don’t have enough distinct sections to justify this.

Access to the vault from a strike, highly unlikely.

More strikes are unlikely because they don’t really have the time or the reason to do so.

Strikes are probably one of the activities that don’t really need any more polish to it so it is hard to figure out what it could be. These are my random thoughts on the topic though.

    • True Radiant Free

I think it will be something to fix the probabilities of certain strikes in the ROC and other playlists, because 5 of the same strikes in a row just doesn’t seem right and isn’t the best programming.

    • insanetrasher

New strike playlist has nightfall/weekly look alike difficulty?

That would be amazing, since it would give you something challenging to do once you’re done weekly reset activities.

    • Sierea

It will be level 32 Nightfall/Weekly.

  • Ben Redenbaugh

How about something that tells you how many Dead Ghosts you’ve found?

    • David B

You can find that number on the Grimoire card.

      • Ben Redenbaugh

        Cool, Thanks a bunch man!

        Seems I’ve found 70.

    • Braskulki

Look for the site Detinyghosthunter.net you can see which are missing, and how to get

  • Charles Jones

    Nightfall Matchmaking?! Aaaye..

    • hauntedknight55

I’m still surprised people want this to be honest. I see the convenience in it as opposed to going to an LFG. However, take this week for example. Do you really want to sit through matchmaking 10+ times while you get paired up with 2 28s with maybe 1 void weapon? In that time, I can (and do) find exactly what I’m looking for on another site in less than 5 minutes…
If you don’t mind that’s cool, but I prefer not to wipe because people want to be carried when they shouldn’t be doing a lvl30.

      • I’m ok with no matchmaking for smaller teams since it’s a bit easier to get one or two people together. I know there are plenty that disagree about matchmaking for raids, but I would like it as a last resort. Going to LFG to find a team if not enough of your friends are on/available isn’t something that I really…enjoy? My time is limited to maybe an hour or two a night and it would be so much easier that if I wanted to just quick hop in and raid w/ match-made randoms, so be-it. IMHO it’s one less headache if you happen to be in that predicament.

  • john

    Please add more inventory spots!!

  • ThatGuy

Trade system would be cool to implement. Also, why not make motes of light mean more. Like I think 50 motes of light or even 75 should be able to be used to buy a strange coin. Or 100 motes plus marks from your faction of choice gets you a legendary engram.

    • Sloth

if you were leveled enough to have 100 motes of light, why would you need a worthless legendary engram?

      • cool_herc

        Exactly. Would be utterly pointless.

        • ThatGuy

Yeah I guess since you can carry all exotics….oh wait you can’t so you need some legendary weapons and armor. You’re both idiots.

  • BAMozzy69 .

As I don’t play the PvP this is kind of pointless for me. I don’t have any reason to rank up my Vanguard or Cryptarch either – I already have 40 Vanguard Commendations and nothing worth buying.
As for the Strikes, I wonder if hey will be on rotation as opposed to random? Maybe improve the rewards – who wants Blue engrams at the highest level. Personally I only ever do the Weekly Nightfall and Heroic Strikes anyway – more out of routine than for reward.

  • Christian

Nice. Much needed feature, good layout, nicely installed. I wish all games did this (: Nice work.

  • SAW The Spartan

Ok Bungie, now just give us our Dance Vendor already!
(Awoken, Warlock, Undercity, w/dreadlocks, his catchphrase: Time to Awaken the magic of dance, Mon!)

  • TDUNN79

It will be nice to finally be able to get the strange coins of the weekly without having to wait for a friend to be available.
