Vex Mythoclast Exotic Review

…a causal loop within the weapon’s mechanism, suggesting that the firing process somehow binds space and time into…

Vex Mythoclast is a primary, Exotic Fusion Rifle.

It can only be acquired by defeating Atheon on hard mode, and it will never be sold by Xûr.

8/10
8.4/10

The good: Bonus damage from Crowd Control, ignores shields.

The bad: Low range and ammo reserve.

Conclusion: Excellent perks, overall it’s great, but not powerful enough.

Weapon Review

The Vex Mythoclast is a primary fusion rifle that is in a class of its own. The only way to obtain this weapon is to defeat Atheon on Hard mode, but even still you may not get it.

If RNGesus was smiling upon you, it’ll work best in the mid-range encounters. It’s one of the coolest looking guns in the game, and with the right perks, it can dominate most weapons.

We’re unsure if this weapon will be able to benefit from the new ultimate Exotic upgrade process.

The Good

This is one of the strongest primary weapons in the game! Don’t mistakenly think you will be completely overpowered with it, but it’s a top 5 choice for endgame content.

This weapon is best used when enemies are at close-medium range, as it’ll be easiest to control its recoil so you can score critical hits.

One of the best aspects of this weapon is the fact that it’s got such useful upgrade perks – and many times you might find it hard to choose which to go with.

Its signature perk, Timeless Mythoclast, allows it to never have to be charged like a normal fusion rifle, which makes it extremely unique. In a sense, the Vex Mythoclast is like Pocket Infinity’s older brother who took a few steroids, and might feel the side effects every so often.

With the Send It perk, you’ll shred opponents with reliable stability. If you can land headshots, you’ll be on par with the SUROS Regime, but you might find yourself failing to players using an Exotic hand cannon.

Even though firing from the hip is easy to do, hitting precision spots makes this gun feel like a mini LMG for the short amount of time that your ammo lasts, and will be necessary to maximize your damage potential.

With the increased attack level of 323 when fully upgraded, this is a fun and powerful gun in PvE (it’ll ignore shields), and can hold its own in PvP.

The Bad

The Vex Mythoclast’s shortcoming is a combination of three problems: low ammo reserve, high recoil, and low range.

You will find yourself constantly reloading and eventually running out of ammo! This is a pain when running the Nightfall or the Vault of Glass; one of the few primary weapons that requires ammo synth’s.

In PvP the low ammo isn’t a huge issue though, and might not even be noticeable for many people.

As for recoil & range, even when upgraded with Send It, you’re going to wish you were using a scout rifle when you see all of the critical shots you’re missing.

It takes about 4-5 headshots to down someone in PvP, but in reality the recoil will cause you to miss some, and it will take about 8 shots total to take someone out.

Cosmetics

One the coolest looking guns in the game? Yes.

Whether aiming down its sights or slinging it across your back in the tower, it has a way of making a lasting impression.

Seductive curves draw your eye all over the weapon; getting closer reveals the weapon has an almost circuit board pattern on it.

The scope is very open and easy to use as well, and the sound is immediately identifiable.

Some legends live forever. Others are overwritten – reshaped by the sheer will of those who believe that any ordeal can be conquered, any foe vanquished, any god cast down.

The Mythoclast is a Vex instrument from some far-flung corner of time and space, mysteriously fit for human hands. Its origins, mechanism of action, and ultimate purpose remain unknown. Perhaps it will reveal itself to you, in time…

Conclusion

The Vex Mythoclast is something of an oddity. It’s not crazy glue good, but it’s nowhere near bad.

It fails to live up to how it’s acquired, being the 1 and only Exotic that’s exclusively dropped from Atheon on hard mode.

Even with the most recent buff to its maximum attack, the low ammo reserve and poor range is what you need to consider before using it.

While it is still extremely fun to use, even some of the Legendary weapons such as the Vision of Confluence could easily deal as much damage.

For PvP this weapon earns a 8/10 and for PvE a 8.4/10.
