Xûr is in town offering new gear. What’s worth your hard-earned Strange Coins?

He’s also selling Exotic Engrams, but it’s probably best to save your Motes until the 22nd.

Truth

It’s a great launcher that’s only been sold several times before. It’s way above average for PvP, and is a great Gjallarhorn-alternative in PvE.

Check out how we place it in our PvP and PvE Exotic tier list.

Should I buy it?

With a 3 round magazine and balanced stats, it’s nearly perfect for the Crucible. It’s everything you want in a rocket launcher: intense tracking and early detonation. The potency of the tracking will allow you to pull off some amazing kills too.

Certainly not as deadly as the mighty Gjallarhorn, but the stats on this rocket launcher are too good to ignore, and is one of the few Void rocket launchers. With the intense tracking that this weapon provides, you’re guaranteed not to waste any ammo and always hit your mark.

If you’re unable to get this launcher, we provided some Legendary alternatives in our comparison article.

Stats Compared to Others

  • Above Average: Blast Radius, Stability, Reload Speed, AA
  • Below Average: Velocity

Notable Perks

  • Grenades and Horseshoes: Rockets from this weapon will detonate early based on proximity to targets.
  • Prototype Trueseeker: Rockets from this weapon will detonate early based on proximity to targets.

An Insurmountable Skullfortan insurmountable skullfort exotic helm review

It grants Discipline (perfect for maximizing cooldown on those all-important grenades), gives full melee energy on respawn, and provides Transfusion free of charge; what’s not to love? This helmet is ideal for the punch-happy Titan. These ranked in tier 1 for our Titan Exotic PvP list.

It’s got a poor 87/93 Discipline roll, while the max is about 130.

Talents

  • Infusion – Replenishes health each time you pick up an Orb of Light.
  • Impact Induction – Causing damage with a melee reduces your grenade cooldown.
  • Improved Transfusion – Kills with Storm Fist immediately trigger health regeneration. You also respawn with full Melee energy.

Should I buy it?

Worth buying for PvP, and might get some use in PvE as well. The Skullfort is very much of a Jack-of-all-trades Exotic in PvE. Its focus is split neatly between Grenades and Melee, and although its signature perk can not be fully taken advantage of, it is a worthy selection for most content.

Its pure Discipline and Impact Induction work in tandem to help speed Grenade cooldown, which is crucial for keeping you ready to deal with anything.

The Improved Transfusion is helpful if not revolutionary, contributing to survivability while allowing for some perk flexibility. There aren’t many uses in which full melee energy on spawn will be worthwhile.

Although it doesn’t grant the useful Rain Blows perk, Skullfort’s Transfusion is potent, activating on both regular melee and Shoulder Charge kills alike. You are free to select between Aftershocks and Headstrong with this benefit, and Amplify and Discharge become appealing options in lieu of Overload with Skullfort granting melee energy after every death.

Knucklehead Radarknucklehead radar exotic helm review

A solid helm in PvP and PvE that’s rarely sold from Xur, it’ll allow you to be more aware, more often.

This helm has an above average 115/123 Strength roll.

Talents

  • Light the Blade – Causing damage with a grenade reduces your melee cooldown.
  • Inverse Shadow – Increased Super energy gained from killing minions of the Darkness.
  • Sensor Pack – Radar remains visible while aiming Primary Weapons.

Should I buy it?

This helm is amazing for those who like to switch their weapon loadouts around. Sensor Pack is useful in PvP: you’re able to see your radar while looking down the sights of primary weapons (MIDA Multi-tool and Patience and Time have a similar perk).

Being able to see your radar while ADS lends itself well to all playstyles, and all formats of the Crucible.

The downside to Knucklehead Radar is that Inverse Shadow does not work outside of PvE, which means it’s a useless perk in PvP. Furthermore, Sensor Pack will rarely be necessary in PvE, making it basically useless in PvE.

In PvP you’re left with the increased awareness from your radar and a melee cooldown from grenade damage. For newer players this is a wonderful helm to use until you have better map knowledge and awareness.

Apotheosis VeilApotheosis-Veil exotic helm review

While Fireborn Sunsingers won’t find much use in the Apotheosis Veil, a Voidwalker or Radiant Skin Sunsinger’s can make interesting changes to their playstyle with it.

The helm has an average 108/117 Discipline roll.

Talents

  • Serpent’s Tail – Causing damage with a melee reduces your grenade cooldown.
  • Infusion – Replenishes health each time you pick up an Orb of Light.
  • Private Reserves – Immediately regenerate health on activating your Super.

Should I buy it?

Great subclass-neutral choice when you’re in a tough spot in PvE, definitely worth picking up. Private Reserves is one of those perks that can potentially save your life and turn around and engagement, equally useful in PvP and PvE, but is a perk that will only benefit you in a few situations.

This piece of gear strongly encourages a grenade lobbing playstyle. Any melee damage causes a boost in the recharge of your grenades; you don’t even have to land a kill to get more energy.

If you’re low on health, you can pop your Nova Bomb to obliterate anything nearby and let your health regenerate. As a Sunsinger, you can activate your Radiant Skin and regain your health before you even enter a fight.

Private Reserves is a niche perk, but it can be worked into pretty much any playstyle with ease. In Crota’s End hard mode, this perk plus Infusion will allow you to easily regenerate health and is perfect for the Crota encounter.
