Public Events Guide

Destiny has a variety of events that change over time (in real time): some are daily, some are weekly. This article will focus on the constant cycle of Public Events.

First Event Each Day

Your first gold score in a Public Event each day (on each character) rewards you with some Ascendant materials. If you’re hunting for Public Events, have your friends split up and spread out. You can then have everyone join a Fireteam when you locate one.

When you’re out in the world on Patrols, following the schedule at this site, you can find Chests, Materials, and Patrol Beacons and of course Public Events.

Destinypublicevents.com will not only show you when they’re coming, but also where they are and how to get there.

-1x30- Public Event Types

  • Defeat Extraction Crews – Defeat three waves of enemies before time runs out to deactivate the Glimmer Drill.
  • Defend the Warsat – Have your Ghost scan the warsat; the more Guardians that stand near it, the faster it can download the data. Defend yourself from waves of enemy reinforcements.
  • Defeat the Devil Walker – Destroy a Devil Walker before time runs out.
  • Kill an Enemy – A powerful enemy will appear. Defeat them before they reach a checkpoint; this will require heavy firepower from several players.
  • Prevent Vex Sacrifices – Your mission is to defend this conflux as Vex Goblins, Hobgoblins, Harpies, and Minotaur approach.

Sometimes instead of a Public Event, you’ll receive the message “The enemy is moving against each other,” and a large group of enemies will start fighting. Fighting in this event does not reward you with any bonus experience.

“Kill an Enemy” is the most difficult one, I think.

Solo it is. The shield needs sustained fire at it to take it down. With 2 or 3 its far easier. Its the only one I struggle to do on my own.

Yeah, I hate that one. It’s the only one I can’t do solo. Just because the shields regen by the time you reload your gun D:

the one on Mars is ridiculous…I consider myself a pretty good player and have pretty good gear and weapons and it looks like I hardly hit him in the 5 minute span, or he just gets to the end :/

BTW: What are the possible loot drops from public events (after the first golden one)?

    • insanetrasher

Legendary mats afaik, but chances are a bit low.

Public Events have the rare chance to give you legendary upgrade materials every time you complete one. As far as I know that is the only rewards they give out. You additionally get a vanguard mark for each tier, “Participant” = 1, “Bronze” = 2, “Silver” = 3, “Gold” = 4. Also, every day you get granted a common package from the messenger for completing your first event in the day.

I was doing Patrols yesterday on Earth and caught a “Defeat Extraction Crews” by the old Loot Cave…after it was done spend maybe a minute or two collecting ammo then made my way back to the middle area…when I got out Another event was taking place …I literally got there and no joke a second or 2 later it ended and I got the gold credit…finally got to the middle by the Patrol starting point and another event was taking place…got credit for that one too…so in like maybe 3 or 4 minutes I got Gold rating on 3 different events and managed to pull Ascendant Materials on each one…good times 🙂

When I do “Complete 3 Public events” bounty I just do:

Skywatch -> Forgotten Shore -> The Divide.

Keep in mind you can treck through the Skywatch building (The building on top of the old loot cave). To get directly through to Forgotten Shore. Haven’t missed any of the events yet.
