No Land Beyond Video Review

Weapon Review

No Land Beyond is a primary sniper rifle that can be obtained in all the normal ways, and of course Xur has a chance of selling it as well.

No Land Beyond is a very unique weapon, but unfortunately not a good one. Similar to Vex Mythoclast or Universal Remote, it is a special (secondary) weapon that is used in the primary slot.

It’s base stats are ironically the exact same as Ice Breaker.

Recommended perks:

Accurized Ballistics
+5% Damage
+10 Range
-10 Stability

Flared Magwell
+100 Reload

CQB Ballistics
-10 Range
+15 Stability

Increases ADS speed by 30%

The Good

No Land Beyond is actually fun to use at times. The disconnect you get from a bolt action type rifle in the universe of Destiny is humoring.

You’ll have to work for every kill, but when you finally get into the weapon’s rhythm, it gives you a very rewarding/satisfying feeling.

It fortunately does have the second highest Impact out of any sniper rifle (tied with Ice Breaker).

The Bad

Let’s start off with what could easily be changed: Kinetic damage. If there was any reason to use this weapon in PvE, it’d be because of a non-Kinetic damage type.

Speaking of PvE, the damage potential of this weapon is below average for a primary weapon.

With “The Master” perk you’re going to be able to do more precision damage, and more damage on your next target, but with the amount of time you’re forced to wait for each shot, another Exotic primary could easily do more damage in the same amount of time.

No Land Beyond has a horribly low fire rate; iron sights don’t help with this either.

Imagine it: You get the drop on your enemy in the Crucible, only to barely miss his head. Ready for your next shot to take him down? You’ll need to wait at least 2 seconds… after every shot.

Be prepared to dive behind cover if you miss a shot, or switch to another weapon. No weapon upgrades will improve the low rate of fire, which is statistically the second lowest of all sniper rifles, but the worst in reality.

As for the iron sights, they’re inconsistent and annoying. They cover up a large portion of the screen and make it a chore to search for someone while aiming down them.

The ammo reserve on this weapon is too low as well, and doesn’t benefit from ammo reserves.

The disconnect of having a WWII style weapon in Destiny reminds us of what used to be, but this should have been left in a museum.

While the sound feels deep and impacting, the visuals just fall behind. The extremely large sight, as well as the handle off to the right, are distracting.

Some believe its origins predate the Golden Age and served to liberate the old Earth nation from a terrible cycle of war.

Ultimately, No Land Beyond does not currently deserve its Exotic status.

What could have been a really fun weapon, is crippled by a low rate of fire and horrible ADS experience.

Given you’re skilled enough to master the weapon, you may enjoy using it in PvP. In PvE however, there’s no good reason to use this as your primary weapon.

For PvP this weapon earns a 4.8/10 and for PvE a 3/10.

Howdy! I am a contributing writer. If you think I overlooked something about a weapon, feel free to comment below and let me know. I’ll see you in the Crucible.

  • Corey Neher

So disappointing… I had high hopes for this weapon. I’ve always enjoyed iron sight snipers. Even before this review I had concerns about how obstructive the sights were and this confirms it…

  • Oriel76

If this drop, I’ll keep it till Bungie eventually patch it… By the way do you intend to create a Legendary/Raid review section ?

  • This was my go-to “ZOMG I HOPE I GET IT” for the DLC. Fix it please 🙂

  • sbrozzi

Seems like more than a few Exotics are only pretty to look at vs. practical to use. That being said my daily go to gun is the post DLC Thorn. I have it almost fully upgraded and it is a beast!

  • Micah Yang

If they made the bolt animation faster and if you could play the animation while adsing, i wmight use this weapon.

  • Shaun Nicholson

Just got it from nightfall… What a piece of shit

  • mrtin

it has the 4th highest impact. The supremacy, Icebreaker, and Black
hammer (currently the highest by 15%) are better

  • Travis Badjib

I got this as my fist ever random exotic and was so excited….i mean a primary sniper rifle?! awesome……then i tried it…….and without their being something added to make it fire faster(maybe something in the weapon abilities) and a decent buff in the ole ammo reserve department this gun will do one of 2 things, provide me with an exotic shard, or sit in my bank and rust….

  • Lee Juriet

so its a piece of shit? Worse than the old Juju? Lordy Bungie, da fuck were you thinking….

If I get this, I’ll keep it just on the off hand chance it gets fixed/massivly buffed.

    • Wiz

yes, much worse than the old juju

  • Wiz

No matter what the situation, there is always a better gun to use than this one. This gun isnt even situational, its just irrelevent…. but is slightly fun to use. (untill you realize youve killed about 5-10 pve enemies in the last minute.)

I dissagree. Im not great with a sniper though I have patience and love it. Also run with a max hand cannon usually as my primary. Ive done 3vanguard rokwith this weapon and I see the kills piling up. Some of course to unfriendly and murmur. The fast reload when upgraded will help to get that kill chain going and even if you slip….it happens 😉 you still may get the round back. Not to mention the possibility of a buff for this weapon. I do agree with most. It deserves a type damage. Im going to trim some bosses with it.

  • rightwing

This exotic is supposed to be an old-style gun, and that is just what it is. Different guns have different tactics, but this gun’s tactics are way more different than other types. 54 rounds of ammo should be sufficient.

  • jesse corbett

when you line up a head shot, a red light shines on the sharp point of the cross hairs

  • sbrozzi

Based on how I have seen some Guardians use this gun so far during the recent Iron Banner I may have to pick it up next time it is available. In the right hands this weapon seems very powerful.

    • LinksLegionaire

I’ve been playing IB pretty much nonstop foe the past 4 days and I’ve only seen one other person using it. But yes, like any gun, it’s very good in capable hands.

    • Darkhalf breed

i loved using this thing in IB, if you work hard enough and get alittle lucky it you can do some serious damage to your opponets, either weakening them for your teammates to take care of or defending the point close with quarters head shot kills.

  • Suspect Grey

They should get rid of the “Mulligan” Perk and change it to “Hawkeye” which is one I made up its perk is that(Every precision shot will always add your shot directly back into the magazine). Then make its magazine size “4”. Last change the up the perk “The Master” to (Precision damage is extremely increased for each shot in a row, reloading will reset this perk)

  • Josh

I’d say 4.8/10 is extremely generous for this poorly conceived and executed “exotic” weapon. My rating = 0.1/10.

    • LinksLegionaire

I’d say 4.8 is pretty spot on. NLB is easily my second favorite if not my most favorite gun to use in the Crucible (Red Death being the other). I’d like to see a fire rate buff but that might make it a bit OP. Get rid of the scope glare and give it 3rd Eye and I’d call it perfect.

  • Virgil

Never bring a broomstick to a gunfight.

  • For me this weapon works to pratice my sniper skills when I’m doing patrol, for example. It is funny to head shot with it.

  • StarTsurugi

It’s fantastic weapon that I would have never bought, so thankfully I found it in a Crota chest.
Hitting the air with your melee actually cancels the bolt animation after each shot. If you have Rain Blows, you can increase rate of fire with that trick.

  • BarryTheEpicFail

Yep I got it on a ROC strike….not worth using a primary slot for it.

  • Starship001

Best sniper training tool, practice with it to be very good with any other sniper

  • Kenshiro Genjuro

Toyed around with it for 5 minutes on a patrol and realized what a great way to get a free exotic shard.

  • Mike

i picked mine up from iron banner. first exotic primary and honestly, I don’t mind. wasn’t expecting anything!

  • Scott Pam

Bought it lasst time and rapidly dissassembled it.

My rating: -4. Nerf guns are better.

  • Awesomegj

I like it for some reason I always liked it XD I admit its horrible but you know I like having a challenge in destiny and no land beyond fits that perfectly though it would be awesome if it got buffed 🙂

  • shwiftytwango

Pretty sure Flared Magwell and Gunslingers perks help with the reload time. I’d run it in pvp tbh.
