Exotic Leg Armor Review

Published on: Jan 31, 2015 @ 18:07

The Exotic boots in Destiny are pretty underwhelming, even the new ones coming in the House of Wolves. The leg armor really needs an additional perk so they’ll be more useful.

We also have a full review for each of Destiny’s Exotic helmets for the Titan, Hunter, and Warlock.

We’ve reviewed each of the Exotic chest pieces and gauntlets as well.

Heavy Ammo

Before we get into the individual reviews, since both of the boots have the Heavy Weapon Ammo perk, lets first talk about how much this actually helps out.

With the Heavy Weapon Ammo perk, these weapons have the following reserve ammo:

You can see more information about how heavy weapons are affected in this Reddit post.

Mk. 44 Stand Asides (Striker)mk 44 stand asides exotic

  • Strength
  • Heavy Weapon Ammo – Increases the amount of Heavy Weapon ammunition you can carry.
  • Be Somewhere Else – Increases the duration Shoulder Charge remains active.

The Mk. 44 Stand Asides, cosmetically similar to Ruin Wings, are an OK choice for any PvP-focused Striker who enjoys getting up close and personal with the enemy.

Often you’ll find that the window for shoulder charge is too short, having to plan your movement around getting that shoulder charge kill. These boots will extend the time it’s available by about 3 seconds, increasing it to 8 seconds from 5.

These will enable you to run a bit longer, and the high Strength will ensure a quick followup Storm Fist.

Use the Transfusion talent to further aid you on the field with health regeneration after a kill with Shoulder Charge.

If you need a PvP-specific Exotic for your Striker, give these a shot. Keep in mind that if you’ve already got an armor piece that increases heavy weapon ammo, it’s not going to stack with these boots.

We don’t recommend using these in PvE.

Radiant Dance Machinesradiant dance machines exotic boots

  • Strength
  • Heavy Weapon Ammo – Increases the amount of Heavy Weapon ammunition you can carry.
  • The Dance – You move more quickly while aiming your weapon. Dancing speed increase by 200%!

These boots are specific for a certain type of player. Some may find these helpful if they value quicker movement, but Exotic helms, gauntlets, or chests would be a better option most of the time.

Radiant Dance Machines are built around being more mobile while aiming. For a high mobility build, they can be a solid choice for a Hunter that’s trying to avoid crossfire.

“The Dance” perk won’t give you a huge increase in speed, but it is helpful enough to build around. Your ADS movement speed will be almost doubled from what’s normal.

Combine these boots with the MIDA Multi-Tool and high agility, and it’ll be like floating on air! If you want to further increase your speed, be sure to use the “Path Unknown” and “Way of the Drifter” talents.

Similar to the Mk. 44 Stand Asides, these will increase your heavy ammo as well, so coupling them with a machine gun in PvP will be your best bet.

The Strength on these boots seem out of place and obviously don’t help out with their of the perks.

These boots are for a very niche crowd, and will be most beneficial in the Crucible. If you are looking for a new toy to play with in PvP, they’re worth trying, but generally not useful enough to warrant consistent use.

We don’t recommend using these in PvE, since you won’t find much benefit from moving faster while aiming.

The boots look awesome, but they feel like a vanity item.

PvE: 3/10

PvP: 6.8/10

Fken bungie need to make exotic feel like exotic. These lame armor makes it pointless to buy or use when u got god tier hunter helm and titan arm n chest… all exotic should be look n balance so that they have a use. It like how jellyhorn is staple heavy n anything is trash. If they up dmg on Truth n add tracking to dragon breath, these rocket will be simular n worth using all.

    • Paratrooper2000

Bungie needs to make exotics rare like exotics. They are way too common and way too easy to get.

      • Pat Mcfeely

Not that common but accessible if you rely on xur.

      • Kou Vang

And make it have diff stats roll as in ruin wings having intellect or discipline instead of strength.

  • Reflex

At this point, we just need a new tier of weapon. Exotics are f*cked up and most of the time outclassed by legendaries. Also, Exotics should be SUPER rare. I should not be able to have 20+ Exotics. If you even see an exotic in the crucible, you should say, “Oh Sh*t an exotic!!” and not just complain that they are using a Suros like everyone else.

    • Pat Mcfeely

The new tier would still be acessible to the masses.. they need to make exotics earned not fed to the masses.

      • Reflex

I feel like a new tier should not be sold by Xur and could only be obtained by completing a raid, so that you can be deemed “Worthy” or whatever. Maybe bring back a relic to the speaker for proof that you defeated Crota or Atheon and he can grant one thing randomly (max you glimmer, 1 free weapon upgrade, voucher for faction gear, new tier weapon)

I assume you only have 20+ because of Xur, which I like in the game. Otherwise, most of us would still have no more than 2 from release date. RNG kinda ruins balance in the PVP since skill has nothing to do with rewards. If you mean a more definitive reward system, like a 50% chance of a legendary and 33% chance for an exotic per PVP win/most points/most kills/etc., then sure. But with RNG, the idea of “rewards” is non-existent. Personally, I would like to equip more than one, but set one as your main exotic while the others have “normal perk” versions of their exotic perks (Surose Regime -> Glass Half Full; Ice Breaker -> Firefly; etc.). You’d still have the option to not do this, like we already do, but if you choose to keep more than one, just note that most Exotics would be like Legendaries anyway, minus somewhat worse stats on many of them.
