The Good

As you may have expected, Badger CCL is in the slow firing/high Impact archetype. High Impact makes each shot extremely valuable and powerful.

Badger ‘Couldn’t Care Less’ has the highest Impact among its Legendary brothers, tied with Gheleon’s Demise and a few others.

In the Crucible you’ll be doing 49 on the body and 73 to the head, which means you’ll just need 3-4 shots to take down another Guardian. With Luck in the Chamber, body damage will be 65 and critical damage will increase to 97.
badger ccl pve damage review
In PvE the body damage on a level 30 tier 1 enemy is 408, and 1222 if you land a critical hit. Many tier 1 enemies will go down with just 1 critical shot. With Luck in the Chamber, body damage is 543 and critical is 1629.

The range is above average and will be completely maxed with Send It & Ranged Lens RLS3. It’s recommended that you choose Flared Magwell instead of Send It though; the range is already good to go.

The Bad

With the right perks this could be an amazing scout rifle. Perks like Zen Moment, Explosive Rounds, Third Eye, or Firefly would really propel Badger CCL into another tier.

Mulligan procs so infrequently that it’s hardly noticeable. Luck in the Chamber adds a damage boost, but with such a large magazine size, in PvP you’ll usually reload before it activates. Send It does maximize the range, but the range is already exceptional, so that perk isn’t worth using.
badger ccl scout rifle review
Reload speed is slow, but not as slow as B-Line Trauma (full review). The base reload speed is 2.55 seconds but that can be accelerated to 1.6 seconds with Flared Magwell + TrueSight IS.

Stability is average among the other Legendary scout rifles, and to keep it at its best, use the standard Red Dot-OAS sight.

Its magazine is low compared to many scout rifles, but due to the high damage inflicted with each shot, this isn’t as big of an issue as you may think.

Conclusion

If not for its default vendor perks, this would be an amazing scout rifle. Each time you pull the trigger, you can feel the destructive force that comes behind such high Impact, and its incredible.

Is it worth buying for the high Impact & range? That depends on how much you value it. The only other 61 Impact alternative would be Gheleon’s Demise, which you won’t always have the opportunity to purchase.
badger ccl pve review
If you desperately need a high Impact scout rifle, and you don’t have Gheleon’s Demise, then pick up Badger CCL.

For PvP this weapon earns a 8/10 and for PvE a 8.2/10.

I got this with flared magwell outlaw and firefly. Best scout ever

    • Yeah that’s an amazing roll

That’s crazy good. I’m jealous. I still love my Lord High Fixer (Vendor Perks) though. Third Eye, Rangefinder, and Send it, all on a hand cannon that has very predictable and controllable recoil. It’s just too good. Too bad it only has a max damage of 300 since it’s vanilla.

    • Fredo Gallardo

I’m right there with you 🙂 Don’t even remember how I got it. With Outlaw’s fast reload though (PVE) I switch flared magwell to Explosive rounds <3

    • insanetrasher

Yup, got one with Firefly, Zen moment and Flared magwell. It was like my 2nd or 3rd legendary item on TDB. But having no elemental damage in end-game PvE is not that useful, that’s why I mostly use my Fatebringer.

    • Bubba92188

Don’t use flared magwell on it. Outlaw cancels any affect on the reload speed of flared magwell sadly. They do NOT stack. I’ll post the video proof as well. I just got one the other day myself, but zen moment/flared magwell/firefly. Haven’t maxed it out yet but it is awesome.

I don’t know if flared magwell will still work if it wasn’t a crit hit, he only tested a crit hit with flared magwell and outlaw. My guess is if was a crit hit, only outlaw triggers and if it wasn’t a crit hit, flared magwell would trigger. So I guess it wouldn’t be too bad of an option if my guestimation is true for you wouldn’t need a crit hit to still have a faster reload. But sadly with a crit hit they don’t stack.

I disagree as I got a badger from leveling up my vanguard and got it with explosive rounds and firefly, so every shot is a massacre.

  • Adam Bryan

Got it with luck, flared and Firefly. ITs retardedly helpful

    • Matt

Got it with outlaw, armor piercing rounds, and firefly! Love it!

  • Keith Christmas

I have one with Rodeo, High Impact Rounds, Hammer Forged and Firefly (obviously I have to pick between HIR and HF). Great scout, but I have so many good scout rifles (a Vision of Confluence, two Fang of Ir Yut, and two very nice variants of Another NitC), I have a hard time ever finding a use for it even with three characters.

[eta] just checked my vault and realised I also have another one with Zen Moment, Explosive Rounds and Grenadier. Seems like I’ve got pretty lucky with the badgers…

  • Eric

What are your thoughts on the following perks I received with my Badger CCL?

Zen Moment – Causing damage increases stability.
Grenadier – Kills reduce cooldown of grenade.

    Middle Column:
    High Caliber Rounds
    Hammer Forged
    Flared Magwell

    • insanetrasher

No firefly, not op. But depending on your build grenadier can be nice.

  • DarkAries79

I agree. This is a very good weapon to have. I luck out with mine, Firefly and Explosive Rounds.

  • P4leRider

Love these reviews! This particular gun seemed to get a really high score though for how completely awful the vendor version is? I would probably give it somewhere in the 5’s with that setup haha. With some awesome RNG perks though it could be sweet! I just feel like after this weekend a lot of people are going to have the IB scout so, this one is going to become obsolete 🙁

  • Spikeh26

Love mine, came with Zen Moment, High Caliber Rounds, and Firefly. Awesome scout!

  • Bob Boberson

LOL. I got this as a random drop and it has zen moment, explosive rounds, and firefly. It absolutely wrecks in PvE and in PvP.

  • Co

This with firefly and explosive rounds. Never looked back. Tier1 dies with 1 precision hit and cleans most of the surroundings when exploding. Its range makes it very close to a sniper with short scopes like the ldr, hitting like a truck with extreme stability. And the fact it’s not exotic so it frees up a slot. I guess a gheleons with the same perks would be similar.

  • Morgan Smith

I got mine out of a Vanguard Package, Luck in the chamber, Explosive Rounds, Firefly, 😀 I wreck house…

  • Grymwulf

This made me laugh out loud, since I just got this scout rifle from a Nightfall strike with Zen Moment, Explosive Rounds, and Third Eye. Guess I ought to level it fully and give it a proper spin!

  • Christopher James Cartwright

Mine just dropped last night. First legendary scout rifle. Got it with:
Final round, high caliber/send it/armour peircing & firefly.
Can’t wait to upgrade it, Seems to have the kick of a v.pissed off mule.

  • Mostlynotgay

Just got this with Zen moment and Explosive rounds from a Vanguard rank up package. It’s… it’s amazing. At the moment it’s pretty much identical to the NitC I got an another pack, only slightly slower firing but alot harder hitting. If you’re going to put explosive rounds on a gun, THIS is the one to put it on.
